Dicey Reilly's Apple Cake

I found this recipe in "Elegant Irish Cooking" cookbook. According to the book, the cake gets its name from a famed Dublin street character immortalized in a popular ballad:

Poor old Dicey Reilly she has taken to the sup,
Poor old Dicey Reilly she will never give it up.

We had this dessert with our Irish stew. It was easy to make and tasted great. We loved the warm soft apples in the cake.

Ingredients:

1/2 C unsalted butter
1 C sugar
4 large eggs
1 1/4 C cake flour
1 t baking powder
3 apples, peeled and sliced thin
2 t sugar
1 1/2 t cinnamon
4 T Irish whiskey

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition Combine flour and baking powder. Fold into egg mixture, combining thoroughly. Pour half the batter into a greased 9-10 inch springform pan. Arrange 2/3 of the apples over batter. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Cover with remaining batter. Place remaining apples on top of cake and sprinkle with sugar. Bake on the middle of a preheated oven for around 50 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Sprinkle with Irish whiskey.
